Back at Mobile World Congress last month, HP showed off their first Android tablet. Well the first tablet they built for Android, we all know how well the Touchpad ran Android. It was a 7-inch tablet with Android 4.1 that was going to sell for $169. The specs were pretty mediocre at best. For those that have forgotten about the specs, here’s what its packing:

  • 7-inch 1024 x 600 resolution display
  • 1.6 GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 processor
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 8GB of storage expandable via micro-SD
  • 3 megapixel rear camera
  • VGA front camera
  • 10.7 mm thin
  • 197mm x 116mm
  • 13.05 ounces
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

The HP Slate 7 also has Beats Audio, but there is no other bloat from HP on this tablet. Now if you’ve owned one of their PC’s, this would be a big surprise for you. We’ve already seen the tablet pass through the FCC here in the US, so we thought it might launch on time, which would be April. Now HP’s website is showing that the Slate 7 won’t be hitting stores until June. So far we have no information on the delay, we’re still awaiting a response from HP.

At this point, this is going to be like the TouchPad all over again. Why? Well it’s already pretty outdated. And if it’s not launching until June, we’ll have the next generation Nexus 7 from Google which will probably be around $199-249 again. Sure HP might be able to sell a few since they do have the brand recognition, but still. So we should expect a fire sale for the HP Slate 7 coming in July or August, and you should be able to grab this tablet for around $49. Or am I pricing it to low?

What are your thoughts on the HP Slate 7 being delayed a couple of months? Let us know in the comments down below.
